Why I'm quitting "quitting alcohol"
For the last two years Iβve completely cut out alcohol. But my health actually IMPROVED when I allowed myself a drink or two.
I've never been a big drinker, in fact, I usually bang on about how much I love "being boring".
But when I got serious about my health and fitness in 2022, cutting out extra sugar from the odd Friday-night cocktail seemed like the logical next step. And it worked!
πͺπΌ I was smashing my health goals
π I got involved in alcohol-free activities.
β¨ Prioritised other 'natural' dopamine, like sports and art activities.
But after a while - my focus on health meant having even one drink felt like undoing all my goals. Talk about putting pressure on yourself! π§
β I became fuelled by all-or-nothing thinking.
β I'd let the fact that βI don't drinkβ become my personality.
β Not drinking was more of a safety blanket than an active choice.
And looking back, I may have had a better time if I'd have allowed myself a cocktail or two!
Then it hit me: Not drinking was actually becoming unhealthy.
I promise you that is exactly how everyone else got there.
My biggest wakeup call was that I didn't want my time in Asia to be defined by early nights in!
π΄ Rigid rules fuel unhealthy behaviours.
π The real health lies in balance and intentionality.
β Sometimes, letting loose is exactly what you need.
Health isn't just about protein smoothies and 5 AM workouts. (Although I love those too!)
β¨It's about experiences, connections, and yes, sometimes staying out past your bedtime.β¨
